Steading

For game masters

Run your campaign
from one place.

Steading is a campaign wiki for GMs. Prep your sessions, run the game, and send handouts straight to your players' phones.

  • Pay once
  • Players are free
  • No AI
  • Works offline
A session page in Steading: the plan with linked names, a read-aloud box, a secret only the GM can see, and the campaign's pages down the side.

Prep

Link everything as you write.

Type @ and a name. It's a link. If the page doesn't exist yet, Steading makes it.

Hover any name to see what you need: the monster's stat block, the character's hit points.

  • People, places, factions, quests, or your own templates
  • Every page lists where it's mentioned
  • Read-aloud boxes, checklists, tables and clickable dice

Secrets

Your secrets stay yours.

Hide any page, or any part of one. Hidden things never reach your players' devices. Not the page, not its name in search, not its pin on the map.

Check any page as your players see it, in one click.

See as a player
The same session on a player's phone, with the secret left out.
Your player's phone

At the table

Reveal it. It's on their phones.

Pick a page and hit reveal. Every player has it before you finish the sentence.

Tonight's session sits next to your tools. Jot notes, roll your own tables, tick clocks and mark clues found.

Maps

Cover the map. Uncover it as they go.

Players only get what you've uncovered. Pins open pages, and maps sit inside maps.

Not a battle map. Use your virtual tabletop for that.

Players

Players are free.

Send a link. They're in. Last session's notes, their own sheet and every name they forgot, on any phone.

  • Nothing to install
  • A card pops up when you share something
  • As many players as you like
A player's phone showing the campaign's front page and the latest session.

Rules

Sheets do the math.

5e for 2014 and 2024 rules: modifiers, saves, skills and proficiency, plus the SRD's monsters, spells and items.

Daggerheart compatible: Hope, Stress, thresholds and duality rolls. A hit marks the right hit points for you.

Anything else: freeform sheets.

A 5e character sheet for Bren, a level 3 ranger, with abilities, saves, skills and hit points.

Keyboard

Keys for everything.

⌘ K finds anything. G T jumps to the table. N makes a page. ⌘ J jots into tonight's session. ? lists the rest.

Mouse and touch work too.

Yours to keep

Your campaign, on your device.

It works with no signal and syncs when you're back. You're never locked in.

  • Export everything to Markdown, any time
  • Import your Obsidian vault, links and all
  • Keep a folder on your computer in sync
  • Daily backups
  • Print it as a book, or a players' copy without the secrets

Plugins

Turn off what you don't use.

Sheets, maps, clocks and random tables are all plugins. Switch any of them off. Nothing you wrote is lost.

Other people's plugins run walled off and tell you what they can read before you add them. We review every one we list. None use AI.

How plugins work

Before adding a plugin, Steading lists what it can do and what it can never do, and whether Steading has reviewed it.

What it isn't

It does one job.

Keep your campaign. Run your game from it. Everything else, use the tools you already like.

No AI

It never writes for you, draws for you or sends your campaign to an AI.

No subscription

Pay once. No monthly fee, no tiers.

Not a virtual tabletop

No battle grid or tokens.

Not a combat tracker

Sheets do the math. You run the fight.

Not a store

Nothing to buy inside it.

Not a chat app

Keep your group chat.

Questions

Questions.

Is there a free trial?

No. You pay once and we leave you alone. Players are always free.

Do players pay or install anything?

No. They open your link on any device, pick a name and they're in.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After you sign in once, everything is on your device. It syncs when you're back online.

Which games?

5e (2014 and 2024 rules) with the SRD. Daggerheart compatible sheets. Freeform sheets for anything else.

Can I bring my notes?

Yes. Import Markdown or a whole Obsidian folder. Links become mentions. GM-only notes stay GM only.

What if Steading goes away?

Your campaign is on your device, and you can export all of it to Markdown any time.

Is there AI in it?

No. Your campaign is never sent to an AI. We don't list AI plugins, and Steading warns you before you add one yourself.

Is it a virtual tabletop?

No. Use it next to your VTT for battle maps and tokens.
